Why are we doing this?

The whole concept of NoNewCoalTees.com sprang from a local non-profit fund raising event to erect a SkyStream© wind powered generator for the Dunbar Garden Project in Little Rock Arkansas. The intention of this project was to help bring awareness to alternate means of energy generation as well as to reduce the operating costs of the garden's greenhouses and refrigeration systems. The Dunbar Garden Project is a two-acre, outdoor classroom in the central city area of Little Rock, Arkansas. The Garden functions as an innovative public/private partnership between Little Rock Parks and Recreation, and the surrounding schools.

While brainstorming ways to raise funds for the wind powered generator, several of us came up with the idea of printing tee shirts to sell at environmental events around the state protesting the creation of two new coal powered plants here in Arkansas. Stephanie Jones from Electric Transportation of Arkansas came up with the original shirt design and made several prints using a carbon black acrylic ink mixture. The prints came out better than expected; having an almost vintage stone washed look to them. These first few shirts received such a great response at their debut that the idea came about to sell these eco-savvy products to the entire public on a larger scale. Kevin Wolmarans, a design student, volunteered his talents in website design and hosting so that we would be able to bring in more proceeds which could then be donated to environmentally friendly initiatives such as those being run by ECO and the Sierra Club of Arkansas.

We are proud to say that in combination with the wonderfull help of Stephanie Jones we were able to donate $220.00 to ECO in 2008 for use in the construction of the SkyStream residential wind turbine and are hoping to be able to assist more in the coming years.
